The Blockhouse Museum (operated by the Merrickville and District Historical Society) will be open throughout the House and Garden Tour (and for the rest of the summer, too!). Visitors will experience life in Merrickville during the early 1800s. The largest of all the blockhouses along the Rideau Canal and with four-foot thick stone walls, gun ports and portholes, this impressive building is a symbol of Merrickville’s proud past.
The adjacent locks are part of the oldest, continuously operating canal in North America and a designated World Heritage Site. Many of our local restaurants overlook the canal.
